Corona
All winter we heard about the coronavirus and how it was going crazy in China. Little did we know that within a few shorts months it would cause the US to shut down and turn everyone's lives upside down!!
Jan/Feb was a rough time for the Skeldon household as we had strep, the flu, pnemonia, ear infections and then two weeks later the stomach bug. Honestly it was not something I would want to relive but we weren't the only ones dealing with it, thats for sure. St. Columban ended up closing school for one week due to the outbreak of the flu and strep throat and the lack of students/teachers left at school.
After that awful month or so the school ended up closing. We were sick and thankful to not have work to do while we were on the mend. Just when we were getting back to normal there were the talks of maybe having the schools close in Ohio to stop the spread of the coronavirus (covid-19). We all thought this can't happen, what would be do, how will this work? Well it happened and not just for the three weeks they initially thought but for the rest of the school year. So from March 13-May 29 no schools or daycares were open.
We stayed home and they eventually closed restaurants and non essential stores. Then came the issue to wear masks wherever you went and with that the shortage of meat and toilet paper along with other cleaning supplies. It was bizarre and at some times a pain but we did it. We survived and eventually even liked the slower paced life that it created. No running around in the evenings to different sporting events or parties, just family time and outside play!
It was hard navigating the workload and learning remotely, not having friends or interacting with anyone outside of our family but with time it became our routine. Zoom calls and google hang outs were the norm with classmates, teachers, family and friends and we cherished the days that the sun was shining and we could get outside!!
We made it work, we figured out how to live differently and actually had a lot of new/cool experiences that we will remember forever!
Its funny, as I write this now 2.5 months after quarantine began, I find it hard to remember what life was like without masks and major stores/restaurants closing their doors. We all made do and are starting to venture out again -- I guess only time will tell what will happen come fall when it is time to go back into school....
