School Time
We didnt quite reach that "tired of summer" feeling in the Skeldon house this year but regardless of what we were feeling, it was time to get back into a routine.
Whit was first to go back and was very excited to be with Mrs. Zude. She formed a great bond with her last year as they would speak often in the hallways and she always made Whitney feel safe/happy. After a few sad days of missing summer and our lazy routine, we got the hang on things and she has been truly eager to get to school everyday! What a difference a happy and loving teacher makes! Last year I believe she went to the nurse almost every day and often complained of headaches. Now she is happy to go to school, complete her homework and no nurse visits except for her clumsy times falling on recess :)) haha!
Whitney still loves reading and writing. She was invited to a special writing class that meets once a week, an enrichment type class, that works on creative writing. Her latest writing project was writing prayers for the principal to read over the announcements.
We are almost at the end of the soccer season but it has been a great one for Whitney. We have seen so much improvement and she has scored a goal or two in every game!! One more tourney coming up and then we going to be missing soccer but glad for a break. It will be nice to stay home in the evenings rather than rushing dinner and baths every night!!
Piano is still going strong and she is really into it this year. She started playing chords and think its sounds like "real piano" music!!
Meredith had to wait almost a month after Whitney went to school to get her chance to start, not sure why preschools around here start so late?!!? But she was so excited to meet her teacher. Mrs. Lolli and Mrs. Eilert are very nice and have a fun classroom. They are the Lollipop classrom (named after her teachers name haha)! The first day was hard, she cried and had to be pulled away from me but by the time I saw her again she was happy and okay.
I was very stressed about how this was going to go for her since she really doesn't like to be away from me but she is a trooper!! The first two weeks she had tears in her eyes when it was time to do drop off but according to her teachers, it only lasted a minute or two and each time I came to pick her up from school she was smiling from ear to ear!
Drop off is getting easier and easier and the the crying has stopped. She surprised us all and seems so grown up now that she goes to school too. Three days a week in the afternoon she gets to play and have her own time which makes her feel special! Shes made some good friends and learned a lot already too.
She loves to read books now, thankfully and writes her letters so well! She knows all of her letters and most of the sounds. For some reason she is not into learning her shapes and often confuses a few of them but it will come with time, Im sure!
Meredith decided against any sports or classes this fall. She doesn't like separating from me but has branched out in the neighborhood. Her BFF Landen lives two houses down and they play almost every day. It was good for her to have that time close enough to me but not actually with me.
Fall has started and we are ready for our one year anniversary in our new house!! Things have definitely started off better this year and we are loving our new hood, school and the cooler weather!
