A relaxing weekend
Its not often that we have nothing going on during the weekends so we made sure to cherish this last one. We seemed to be able to fill the "empty" time very easily though:)
Whitney is very good at communicating her wants/needs but is not quite old enough to understand the why behind our answers!! Thus the reason why we are experiencing "the terrible twos" right now. I shouldn't say the "terrible" twos because she really isn't that bad, we just wish she could understand why we are telling her no:)
Right now two of her very favorite things are swinging and being the social butterfly of the neighborhood and when she doesn't get to experience those things she gets very upset.
The kids go out to recess behind our house around 10:15 every morning and you better believe that Whit is right by the window saying, "schwing" (swing) over and over again because the big kids are swinging to their hearts content. Also anytime she hears a lawn mower she thinks it is our neighbor Jim and says, "Jib, Jib, Jib" over and over until we take her outside to see him!!! If we do not distract her during both of the events above, she will get so upset it will take quite awhile to recover from it!
To try to help the situation we broke down and bought her a swing to hang on our tree in the backyard. On Friday night when the swing didn't work out (needed longer rope) she threw the mother of all fits that broke my heart. We eventually got the swing up on Sunday and she loved every second of it. She giggled and would not get out of it for anything and we of course had a few more fits when we took her out of the swing after what seemed like hours of pushing her...
Today however Whitney asked to get out of her swing and walk because wouldn't you know her best friend Jim was cutting the grass:) Perhaps I need to keep him on speed dial and let him know when to come out so we can get her out of the swing peacefully!!!
Whitney said her first sentence the other day and Emma was the one to witness it. According to Emma, Whit was on the swing and when she went up in the air she saw Tucker around the corner and said to Emma, "I see Tucker." Later she repeated the sentence for me and then again for Daddy...makes me proud:)
She has also proven to have quite the memory for a little one. She will come home from Jenny's and randomly tell me things people did during the day. Like she will say, "Tucker run run run." and sure enough I ask Jenny and Tucker got out that day. Or she says, "Aaachooo, bless you...Emma" because the poor girl has terrible allergies. Or one day last week Jenny's friend came to visit and Whitney will randomly say, "MaryJo" which sounds more like, "marnemo" and tell me that she had to go bye bye.
Today I stubbed my toe while carrying her at the store and she continued to say, "ouch mommy" and point to my toe all day long. The one memory that amazes me is that three weeks ago we were at Walmart and she asked to hold onto a mini baby and a mini Minnie Mouse, and I am talking small. They fit in the palm of her hands, which is probably why she liked them. When we got to the check out counter I decided that we didn't need to spend the money and gave both of them to the cashier to put back. Whitney did not appreciate that and began to cry and Ill admit it, I was flustered. People were looking and it was honestly the first time she cried like that in public. So anyway, I did a bad thing and decided to let her get the small baby doll that was all of two dollars. To this day, every time she picks up that little doll she says, "Minnie Mouse???...BYE BYE??" hahaha :)
Here are some pictures from this weekend:
Whitney got a new pair of shoes and a Bert doll all in one day. We went for a walk and she just had to take Bert, but would stop every few steps to look at her shoes and say WOW! Sad story though, she wore her new flip flops to the park on Sunday and got a blister on her foot. She still looks at the blister (it popped) and gets a little sad. Ryan says, and I sadly agree, that she will not be wearing those shoes anymore!
Whitney and Daddy hanging out on Saturday in the basement. She loves sitting on our new love seat and getting back off and asking to get back on again!!
This is a tad blurry but I had to document two things with this picture. One: she is now requesting to sleep with certain toys each time she takes a nap or goes to bed. And two: I went in to get her from her nap and she said, "NO.....Daddy!!!!" I couldn't believe it but she was telling the truth, I ignored her request and went to pick her up which he protested even louder. Ugh daddy is the fun one I guess!
Whitney is finally done with bottles!! We have moved onto drinking milk from these cups with straws. She still refuses to drink milk from a sippy cup but we will take what we can get!
Here is Whitney in her swing on Sunday morning. Notice she is her in pajamas, she was so excited we couldn't even wait to get dressed!!
Giggling with daddy while she swings!
Although I do not like when she is sick, I enjoyed spending the day with her today. I tried to check her temperature and she took it from me to talk on her "phone". She ended up not having a fever but just the start of a cold. Ill take the cuddles though:)
During one our walks she decided she didn't want to ride in her car anymore but rather wanted to push it!!! She cracks me up!! We were a block and a half away from home and she pushed her car all the way back to our house even though I tried several times to help!
