Newly Finished Basement

When Whitney goes to sleep now she asks for me to say "boom boom" and although I know she is referring to the sound a heart beat makes, I kind of think she might be comforted now by the sound of a hammer.... ;)

We have endured five weeks of pounding, dust and visitors galore....but it was well worth it in the end.  We are thrilled with the new space!!  Whitney did ask for Tim several times today as I am sure she is sad about not being able to say hi to him every day!!!

I think she got over it when she was finally allowed down stairs without shoes on to run around.  She had so much fun kicking and chasing after her ball that I was actually able to get a load of laundry in without her notice I was even in the other room!!!

Now that it is over I can say it was well worth it but I am sorry to all of you that had to endure my whining about the mess and hard work that went along with it.  Without Ryan and Bret we honestly wouldn't have gotten anything done....whew...now its time to relax and enjoy the extra space!!! (and mom too but I ended up joining you upstairs most of the time anyway...haha)

South Haven, Michigan

We love Michigan and had such an amazing time on our family trip to South Haven this year.  The 4.5 hour drive was easy with older kiddos and totally worth it for the memories we made this year! An old high school in downtown South Haven was renovated into lofts recently and we decided to check it out.  It was such a cute place with pieces of the high school here and there for memory sake.  They had old school desks as the sinks in the bathrooms and lockers turned on their side used as planters throughout the building.  The lofts were very nice and spacious and had an indoor pool and movie theater. We had some great food this time around and even met up with some friends that were staying nearby.  The girls loved being on floats in the water, swimming in the pool and checking out downtown.  I would say the highlight of the trip was the dune ride we took on a rainy morning.  It was so much fun and had such amazing views!! Broken Bone

During quarantine Ryan and I were always saying to the girls, "be careful and don't break anything, we dont want to have to go to the ER during this crazy time...." Whit of course breaks her wrist smack dab in the middle of it all!!!  Myself, Ryan and both girls have never broken a bone -- why does it happen when we literally aren't supposed to and don't want to leave the house!?!? Whitney was riding her scooter on April 22 and the wheel got caught in a crack on a neighbors driveway, down she went catching herself with her left wrist.  She immediately screamed out, "I BROKE MY ARM!!!"  I knew it was a bad fall but everything looked okay, just a little blood and I thought this is like her other falls where she is pretty dramatic.  Fast forward and hour and she is feeling sick to her stomach and still in a whole lot of pain.  We luckily have several neighbors in the orhto field that took a look at her arm; she put it in an ice bath and they suggested t...

Fantasy Football

Football season has arrived which means all the men in our family start using "uh huh" and "mmmm hmmm" as their main vocabulary.  This is especially true on draft day when all of them gather at the Sims house for good food and lots and lots of football talk!  The girls make sure they are "seen and not heard" on this day and usually congregate far away from the madness that ensues inside.  Picture this: 15 or so guys huddled over pages and pages of spreadsheets listing every football player worth anything in the NFL, scrambling to make just the right pick, only to receive 'smack' talk from all the other guys about how that wasn't the pick they would have made.  Bret doesn't mess around and has a larger than life poster to list all the draft picks with color coordinated stickers.....Im telling you if you haven't experienced this you won't believe your eyes!!  Once the draft if over (after about two hours of the above craziness) they a...
