Rapunzel and a New Big Girl Bed!
Papaw sent home the movie Tangled with Whitney a few weeks ago and ever since then she has been in love with it. She asks to watch it daily and knows the words to certain parts by heart. She got a Rapunzel shirt from a friend, a doll from Mamaw and Papaw, and the biggest thing is that she got a Rapunzel bed spread for her new big girl bed. Oh and not mention that she chose a Rapunzel costume for Halloween, even though it is only August!!!
Whit has been toying with the idea of getting a big girl bed for awhile. I was fine putting it off because of the horror stories I've heard from other parents about transitioning to a new bed with bars :).
One weekend our good friend Jenny said that she was getting rid of her daughter's bed and wondered if we would like to have it. Whit loves Emma (the daughter) and was so very excited about sleeping in a big girl bed that once belonged to her!! Emma chose her new bed fast and within two days Whit's bed was set up in our house and ready to go. We left the crib up in her room as well just in case she didn't end up wanting to sleep in her big girl bed.
The first night she was a little nervous but very excited to try it out. Good news is she slept ALL night without waking up and called me in the morning without even trying to get out of her bed. I was shocked. I left her room that night thinking, "oh no, here we go......" but nothing:)
The next three to four days were just the same, not trying to get out during nap or bed at all!!! However it did not last forever. One day during nap I saw her slide out of bed to get some books and animals. I was fine with that because she quickly scurried back in. Then the next day she came out after nap without even calling for me which scared me so badly!!!
This went on for a couple of weeks, getting out occasionally to get a toy but then falling asleep on her own and staying in bed...whew. I however knew we werent out of the woods. I knew she would catch on eventually annnnnd she did.
All it took was for Daddy to be home for naptime and Mommy to be away. A change of routine made this all possible I guess:)
According to Daddy she came out and was laying at the top of the steps with her head in her hands and whispered "hi" and scared him to death!! What he didnt know was that before she laid on the steps she went into our bedroom and did some crazy things. Funny thing is I didnt know she did that either, so when I got home I was so perplexed as to why Ryan would put some of my clothes in the shower and other various places that are not where I would normally place them. It all came out later that night that she had snuck into our room and did some of those things and then went to say hi to daddy. It went out for about 30 minutes and then she finally went to sleep on her own.
When I got these texts from Ryan while I was gone, it made me so nervous because I thought that meant that bedtime would be awful!! She surprised us and didn't come out once during the night which is good. Fingers crossed she doesn't ever figure that one out:)
