Goodbye to Bridlepath Lane

We knew the time was coming but it still didn't make it any easier to say goodbye to this special house.  Its not often that someone builds their own house but my Grandpa did..... not once, but TWICE!!  He was so handy and made this house truly unique with built in shelves in every room, a laundry chute, pull out drawers in the cabinets, and much more.

Not only was it special because he built it but it held so many precious memories for all of us.  If I could have bought the home, I would have just to keep in the family.  A family ended up moving in and they get to make new memories in this house and I sure it hope it makes them as happy as it made our family.

My mom spent so so many hours clearing out and cleaning the house.  My Grandma had a knack for keeping things, it was organized very well of course but there was just so much of everything!!  She kept every card we ever sent her, special articles about us or emails we wrote her, gift bags, wrapping paper and bows...the list goes.  Who could forget about her love for mice.  She had mice figurines all over the house and even more Christmas decorations.

We would meet my Mom at the house to go through things and end up with a car load each time we left.  It was stuff we probably didn't need but really wanted to keep for memory sake.  Now we have our houses decorated with items from their house that make us smile when they see them.  I was lucky enough to get their dining room table, oh the wonderful meals we shared together there!!  Ryan and I spent a long weekend refinishing and painting the table.  We also recovered the chairs and now use the table everyday.

Driving past the house is not easy, in fact the last time I did see it I had to pull over because I was crying so hard.  I am not sure how long it will take to get used to the fact that I can't just go type in their garage code and say hello.....but at least we have memories and these pictures to cherish.
