Human Error

You may remember back to a previous blog post three weeks ago where I took Whitney out for her first run on the Loveland Bike Trail. In case you forgot, it was a wonderful and memorable experience. Whitney smiled, giggled and slept, while I was excited and prideful of my baby girl. Fast forward to this morning.....same deal, Daddy is excited to get some exercise, all the while getting Whitney outdoors and getting Mommy some much needed rest. Let's just say this run didn't go on quite like the previous.... Throughout the course of my childhood, my parents gave me some really good advice. Work hard, treat everyone with respect, etc. Though not nearly as profound, I also remember them telling me that when our dog (Jackie) did something bad, 99.9% of the time, it was due to human error. Suffice to say I didn't quite learn that lesson as it relates to Whitney. Let me get to the run... Whitney was kind of fussy from the start. But, I thought I recalled the same thing wh...

Caleb's Surprise Party and Father's Day

Image
As it always seems to be, we had another busy weekend in the Skeldon household.  Starting Saturday with Caleb's Surprise Birthday Party!  Megan did such a wonderful job keeping it a secret and organizing all of the details by herself, I know I certainly could not have composed myself that well and proved it several times last week when I needed to call Caleb but didn't for fear that I might spill the beans:)  Needless to say poor Ryan will most likely never be given a surprise party from his wife...ha ha!   Although Whitney was tired and in a room with about 20 people, she did a great job.  She smiled and sat on several people's laps but inevitably cried when Uncle Caleb picked her up!  She also screamed when Uncle Caleb walked into the house but I think that was more from everyone yelling "SURPRISE" than the site of her uncle.  Perhaps one day the two of them will be buddies but for now poor Uncle Caleb brings on those crocodile tears :(....

Fun Filled Weekend

Not only did Whitney turn 5 months old this Saturday but she also met some new friends and family members, but most importantly Whitney was baptized on Sunday at The Community of The Good Shepherd. Thursday afternoon Whitney and I went to visit the Bishop family for a lunch play date!  Emma and Caroline were both in my kindergarten class and their mom, Jenny, painted the amazing mural in Whitney's room.  Over the years we have become friends and they could not wait to meet Whitney.  Although she refused to be held by anyone other than me, the girls were able to capture her attention immediately.  It was as if she was watching a tennis match because her head was going from side to side taking in both girls.  I must say that when I have trouble with Whitney in the future I will call the girls to rub her head like they did that day, Whitney fell asleep so quickly while they both rubbed her soft little head!!  Can we say babysitters in the making? On...

Yet another milestone

Image
To piggy back on Ryan's post from earlier this morning...Whitney had so much fun with her daddy running.  It is the cutest thing to see her smile and giggle at him.  She certainly is becoming quite the daddy's girl!! Grandma got a big smile out of Whitney as they played on the porch away from the hot sun this weekend.  Although she didn't like the pool, she did love the attention she was getting!!  I think she is slowly but surely getting over her fear of strangers (that meaning anyone other than mom or dad)!! Whitney went into school with me today while I helped my long term sub pack up the classroom, which I might add was pretty much already taken care of!  So thankful for Mrs. Temple and the WONDERFUL job she did with my little tigers.  Whitney was such a good girl and barely even made a fuss.  However, it did bring a little tear to my eye when I turned away for a second and Whitney grabbed the bottle and started holding it herself.  Obvio...

Running with Daddy

Image
So sad to see the weekend end! I am very thankful, however, that we got to spend a lot of valuable time with Whitney. She had her first experience in the pool (although it was somewhat of a non-event, as it only lasted about 30 seconds) and she tried sweet potatoes for the first time (and seemed to enjoy them...at least more than carrots!). However, the most memorable experience for me was our first run together in the jogging stroller. On Sunday morning, I ran 5 miles on the Loveland bike trail. I'm sure it wasn't as memorable for Whitney, as she was asleep for 1/2 the run, but I took great pride in the smiles I received from nearly every passer-by. It seemed like every runner, jogger, walker, and biker slowed down and gave a smile. Some even gave her a compliment in passing. The added plus was the fact that the hour-long run gave Mommy some time to catch up on her sleep as she has been awakened several times the past few nights. I am such a proud father, and s...

Eating Carrots

Whitney tasted carrots for the first time today!!  I made the baby food myself and was grossed out just looking at the watery orange stuff but knew I had to put on a brave face for Whitney. She was excited when I put the spoon in front of her because she assumed that it was rice cereal, boy was she wrong.  We will try again tomorrow and see if her taste buds accept it the second time around!
