Memorial Day Weekend

Image
Memorial day weekend was an exciting one in the Skeldon household!  Not only did Whitney experience her first pool party but she also started rolling over!!  Rest assured I had my camera ready and actually caught her rolling over several times!  The annual Claiborne pool party was Sunday evening and despite the heat, we decide to venture out and see what it was like.  Those of you that know Whitney can attest to the fact that loud noises, crowds of people and too much stimulation doesn't go over well with her.  You can imagine our apprehension as we approached the packed pool house with a live band, but decided to check it out anyway.  Whitney actually surprised us all as she "talked" and smiled at the rambunctious children splashing in the pool.  At about an hour into the party her cheeks were rosy red, skin sticky from the sweat and eyes blinking very slowly due to her tiredness, I guess I should also mention that her mommy was a sweaty mess from ho...

Eating Rice Cereal

Getting excited to eat: Enjoying the yummy cereal:

Rice Cereal

Image
Whitney had rice cereal for the first time yesterday!  She barely made a peep the entire time and I think it was because she was not sure what to think of it!  She didn't cry or spit it out but rather played with it in her mouth the entire time.  She managed to swallow some of the cereal but the rest ended up on her face.  I will say however that for the past few weeks shes been waking up several times in the night and wouldn't you know that the first time she eats rice cereal....she sleeps through the night!!  Could be a coincidence, but she is much happier already today having slept all night without waking up, so we will take it! We took a video of the occasion but it is not currently working, I will post a picture and hope to have the video situation worked out soon!!

Big Girl

Whitney is growing before our eyes!  It seems like a few weeks ago she was wearing newborn clothes and now she is fitting into 6 month outfits!  Where has the time gone? She had her four month check up today and with a few smiles to begin the morning I thought we were off to a good start.  However, a few minutes into her visit the waterworks were turned on.  I can usually calm her down but this time she was inconsolable and this was all before the two shots!!  In between the crying she was weighed and measured.  Whitney now weighs 14 lbs 8 ounces and is 25 inches long! Whitney has been sleeping a lot lately (12.5 hours last night plus four hours in naps total yesterday) and has been really whiny which we thought meant that she was teething. We also thought she was getting her first tooth because was chewing on everything in sight!  Dr. Zimmerly did not see any teeth coming in and believes that she is just going through a growth spurt. Good n...

Learning to Laugh

One of the many difficult aspects of overnight travel for business is the fact that I miss many of Whitney's key developments. It seems like she is doing something new on a weekly basis. This past week, I was in New York and missed Whitney's first "official" laugh. She has smiled and coo'd and giggled before; but now, apparently, she was doing an all-out, belly laugh. Luckily, I was able to witness this laugh over the weekend and have a video to prove it. In the video, Casey is blowing on her feet, which is causing her to laugh hysterically. If she only knew how proud Mommy and Daddy were....and that she was making us giggle/laugh/smile as much (or more) as she was.....we are truly blessed!

Symmes Township Park

Image
Whitney and I took our first walking trip to the park down the road from us.  It was a beautiful day and we took full advantage of it.  I was surprised at how well she did as the walk was over 45 minutes (honestly didn't think it would take that long) and also surprised at how much she was looking at all of her surroundings!  While there I stopped to look at the ducks and some turtles sunning themselves on the rocks.  She actually watched the ducks moving by us, but as proven in the past, she loved watching the leaves blow in the wind more than anything.

Bath time fiasco

Image
Bath time did not start off as one of Whitney's favorite activities but it has become a time she seems to love.  In fact she gets so relaxed that she often pees in the tub at least one time per bathing session!  During our bath time today I was holding back cheers as I finished up because she did not pee at all, when out of the corner of my eye I saw something floating in the water.  Yup you guessed it, Whitney did not pee in the tub this time but instead pooped!!  I should have reacted faster but I was shocked and grabbed her out of the water a few seconds too late.  So of course I had to empty the tub and spray it down with bleach before I could put her back in and rewash!! While I was cleaning out the tub, I wrapped her up in a towel and placed her on the floor so I could concentrate on what I was doing.   I had my back to Whitney and would turn around every few seconds to check on her as a good mom should.  Each time I would find her smili...

Voting Day!

Image
Whitney and I set out into the rain yet again to vote!  Upon entering the voting site (which just happens to be the exact room Caleb and Meg got married) an elderly couple stopped to take a look at her and asked how old she was.  She smiled and before they left the old man said, "I hope you are voting for the schools young lady!"  And to that Whitney responded with a loud "yell" and another big drooling smile.  Everyone laughed and the lady gave Whitney her first sticker!!  We just make friends wherever we go now, who knew that a baby could make you popular!!  :)  Heres to hoping our vote made a difference today!!
